“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” Barbara De Angelis
Dear Ones,
I’ve got a feeling memory. People, places and events which touch my heart stay in my memory. The rest is forgotten. Kind people and acts of kindness are something which has always moved me in a strangely powerful way. Now I know it’s because the acts of kindness reveal the beauty of people who live their lives from an open heart…One of my very early memories is from my childhood and it’s a story of a woman I only knew in the last years of her life. She was in her 80s, a widow who lived on her own in a small house on my street and I can remember her wearing mostly black. I liked her, she was always kind to me when we met on the street. I can still remember watching her walking. She couldn’t walk very fast any more, but there was a dignity in the way she moved and to me she was like a mysterious character from a fairy tale. Somehow I could see that she was a very wise woman and I liked looking at her face with very deep lines which would only reveal more kindness and more wisdom. Sometimes she would carry a shopping bag. It always touched my heart seeing her in her dignified self reliance moving slowly but steadily and I often offered my help to carry the bag for her. Being a shy little girl in that time, there were not many people I would approach like this but I felt safe with her and somehow understood. One day she would summon me in her house which has never happened before. I was intrigued and very curious. Her house was old and there were very steep stairs leading into the upper room. I was watching her very slowly moving up each step, then she disappeared in the upper room, appeared again and started slowly descending back into the room where I was waiting not really knowing what to expect. Then I saw in her hands a carefully wrapped box of chocolates which she said was for me, a present for my coming birthday… It still touches my heart after so many years, as an unexpected act of kindness is the most powerful thing in the world…So, you never know who you will touch with your random acts of kindness. But you can be sure that love creates more love and kindness creates more kindness. So whether it’s time to be more loving and kind to yourself or to someone around you – a stranger, neighbour or someone already close to your heart, don’t hold back. The ripple of your kindness might reach much further in space and time than you would ever expect and your awakened heart will awake many others…I am looking forward to meditating with you.
Lots of love,
Jana x x
