Restful Being

Dear Ones,
as we’ve just entered the Advent season, considered by many a sacred month. we have an opportunity to harness its potentially positive and uplifting energy. Although everything is in a way neutral and the meaning we give to anything determines what we receive back, and so ultimately it is up to each of us what the month of December will be like.

The conditioning often leaves us with a feeling that we often don’t really have a choice and so perhaps we believe that Christmas has to be a busy, sociable and for some even stressful time. But if I learnt anything, both through my own spiritual growth and also my work, it is that we are much more powerful than we’ve been told and the way we can channel our powerful energy effectively is by making decisions and setting clear intentions. Not in a controlling way but simply because we recognise that our life is our own and our conscious choices matter. They literally create matter.
And so, if you feel inspired, just pause now and take some time to reflect on what you would like the last month of 2024 to be for you. If it could be anything, if you could choose freely from the field of infinite possibilities, what would you choose? And if you reflect, maybe there is a word, two or three which could describe it for you.

For me, the main word for December would be restful. It is the last month of a busy year which brought beautiful changes into my life and now I long for time to reflect, integrate and rest. Although I feel very connected to all my loved ones, my friends and family members and look forward to spending time with each of them, I don’t wish to be caught in the busyness of the sociable season. I know that I CAN choose peace and restful being anytime, anywhere, with anyone. And so I am now consciously choosing it now. May I bring peace and joy everywhere I go.
Autumn and winter are naturally more reflective internal seasons and so the invitation for peaceful resting is already there and we can accept this invitation and say YES to it. “Just” being and resting is such an undervalued quality in our “doing” society which nearly glorifies busyness and constant achieving. And so it often takes a high degree of awareness that we can even see that we always have choice and CAN choose rest, being and quiet if that is our preference. And once we make this clear choice and align with it, an external peaceful path can naturally unfold for us as well.

There are so many beautiful gifts deep resting brings to us. We all know how important the deep winter is in the natural cycle of the year: No leaves left on the trees, deep stillness in nature, short days prevail so that long nights can put their dark blue coats over everything and everyone. Everything stops, everything pauses so that it can in perfect divine timing reemerge again, renewed and refreshed.

Our bodies, minds and spirits are following this wisdom too. When we allow our rest to become profound, exquisite and deep like a calm mountain lake, we too emerge with renewed life force and renewed creative energy. All our relationships and all our projects will be replenished and renewed too as we approach everything from this new higher perspective.

We all know the difference when the spring of our natural well-being is depleted and when it’s abundantly overflowing with life-giving and life-affirming energy. Both are inner spaces we can tend to the external world from, but they offer very different journeys and also results. First depletes us even further but the second feels like our own cup is infinite and effortlessly overflowing to everyone and everything around us for our own joy and joy of others.

In the world of duality everything has its place. There is time to act and there is time to just be. And if we can respect both aspects of our existence, we stop creating unrest and conflict within us but instead experience harmony and peace. It’s time for us to see those qualities manifested in our world community now and the first step is to find them within.
