“Make friends with change, and you may discover that it came to set you free.” Sage
Dear Ones,
I often feel a little bit of nostalgia when the summer is coming to an end, as I really love the expansive energy and the warmth of long summer days. And so when the familiar feeling — wanting to hold onto something — came over me again, I could see clearly that I had a choice either to go with it or not. And this time I chose not to. This time I chose to have a different relationship with change.
Our generations could easily be called generations of change. As much change as we have already experienced, my sense is that the greatest changes are still ahead of us. And so flexibility is a desired quality for all of us.
This flexibility doesn’t mean abandoning ourselves, our discernment, values or our dreams, but it means letting go of resistance, attachments and insistence. This becomes much easier when we see the Universe as loving and benevolent. Then we naturally have a different relationship with change. We see changes happening for us rather than to us, and we see ourselves no longer as victims of events and circumstances but as powerful creators.
And so my writing to you today, dearest One, is an invitation to make friends with change. We are so infinitely powerful, and the way we define everything — ourselves and the world — will manifest in our experience in some ways. When we see change as our friend, we will naturally open to changes which are truly for our highest good. We’ll invite changes which help us let go of anything old, outdated, anything we have already outgrown, anything which unnecessarily weighs us down. And consequently, we open to changes which feel like a breath of fresh air, like a door to a wonderful new possibility, like a surprising, delightful solution we haven’t previously thought of.
Sometimes when we resist a change, it can mean that we simply desire the unchanging. Once we know our true nature, the stability of the infinite and eternal within each of us, we no longer go so easily with the drama, with the lows and highs of change. When we know that we are like the unchanging white screen on which the film of our life is projected, we can enjoy the story itself with more curiosity, lightness and ease. After all, it is just a film of our own projections — our thoughts, feelings and beliefs projecting into our everyday reality.
We have the power to choose what we project. We have the power to choose the greatest version of ourselves and our lives. And so the most beautiful changes always start within, the moment we allow ourselves to release the old negative stories we’ve been telling ourselves and start choosing the happy, life-affirming and inspiring ones.
And so, dearest One, can you make friends with change now?
I look forward to meditating with you.
Lots of love,
Jana
