Stability of True Self-Worth

True stability is not found in what stays the same around us, but in the changeless light within us that never leaves.” Sage

Dear Ones,

When we start remembering who we truly are, it has such a beautiful healing effect on our self-esteem and self-worth. We are like the main character from the parable of the Forgotten Prince who was a son of a great king and one day he wandered far from home. He crossed mountains and deserts until he found himself among strangers who didn’t know who he was. Over time, the prince forgot too. He became a beggar — hungry, lost, and dressed in rags. He wandered the streets, believing he was poor and unworthy. Yet deep inside, there was always a faint, mysterious longing for something more…a distant memory of light, of home. One day, a messenger from the king found him. The messenger saw through the rags and said: “Don’t you know who you are? You are the son of the king. You have forgotten your true name.” At first the beggar didn’t believe it. But as the messenger spoke of the royal palace, of the father’s love, something in his heart stirred. He began to remember. Slowly, he set out on the journey home. When he finally reached the gates of the kingdom, the king embraced him with tears of joy and said:“ You were never truly lost — only dreaming of separation.”

This parable appearing in many spiritual traditions illustrates so well our human story. Each of us is this grand being, an aspect of the Divine and forever connected to everything and everyone in the magical web of Oneness. But the years of conditioning often give us many opposite messages, and so we are gradually persuaded that we are insignificant, separate and vulnerable. So soon we start believing it and thinking, feeling and acting like a beggar while in fact the whole world belongs to us. This continues until our path crosses with a divine messenger who asks us: Did you forget who you are?

At some point on this journey together with remembering our divinity we also remember our true innate value and our innate gifts. This rediscovered self-worth is no longer ego based, it’s not based on how we look, what we have or what we do. It goes beyond any external manifestations and ideas of the separate self. It goes much deeper. It is remembering our innate value as eternal and infinite being of light and love having a temporary human experience.

And when we fully remember this highest truth we no longer seek external validation. We know unequivocally who we are. We know that nothing external can increase or decrease our value as we are all equals. Yes, any external individual attributes can be a beautiful expression of who we are but they can’t ever fully define or describe us. Simply because our true nature is much greater than anything which is visible to the naked eye. And when we realise this about ourselves we realise it also about everyone else.

The stability we can find in this deep knowing is the only true stability which is there. If we still seek our stability in external manifestations such as possessions, relationships or work, then when any of these go away so goes our sense of stability and often also self-worth. But if we ground ourselves directly through our true nature, our roots are deep and unshakable by any external circumstances.
And so, dearest One, do YOU know who you are?

I  look forward to meditating with you.
Lots of love,
Jana xx
