“Letting go is not an act of loss, but an opening to freedom.” Sage
Dear Ones,
I love how Scorpio season is reflected in nature – both within and without. Trees become colourful to dazzle us with the ever-changing beauty of manifested reality, only to drop all their splendid new coats and become naked again. Could we have a more illustrative example of letting go and surrender?
Both words – letting go and surrender – might have negative connotations. Many of us are more comfortable with bright, sunny days and might find it difficult to embrace the growing darkness of the days of this season. But if we open our hearts fully to the beauty within the duality of our earthly realm, we will discover that all has its place and that there is a gift in every season.
Similarly, as trees shed their old leaves only to rest and be renewed again in spring, we are asked to let go of anything that no longer serves us so that we can be renewed too. And although letting go can involve anything in manifested reality, in any area of our lives, at the core of it is always internal shedding.
Here, the darkness actually serves us by helping us to see clearly as we look at our beliefs, thoughts and patterns. With fewer distractions, we might naturally feel like going inwards. Perhaps lighting a candle on a quiet November evening and looking at our inner starry sky.
Sometimes negative beliefs might even try to prevent us from doing so, telling us that we’ll discover some dark truth about ourselves. But this is only a trick of a negative belief, and it is our first opportunity to let go and no longer listen to that narrative. And yes, we can certainly discover dark, negative beliefs, thoughts and narratives we keep entertaining. But these do not tell the ultimate truth about who we are. And if we don’t let them frighten us and move courageously further, we can only discover the splendid beauty of our true nature – all the love, kindness, joy, abundance, peace and freedom we seek out there already reside within us.
And so it is like when we get on a plane – especially here in England – when we start moving up, what we first encounter will be only clouds. Sometimes so thick that they look like they are made of cotton wool. But if we wait just a few moments, it is all a vast blue sky. And that’s who we all are. No one is excluded. Each of us is an eternal divine being of light and love. But while we are having this human experience, we might collect some of the clouds. So the only difference between us is that some of us have more clouded skies than others. And some of us might identify ourselves with those clouds – of beliefs, thoughts and feelings – more than others.
So that’s what letting go is all about. We are not letting go of something dear and precious. We are letting go of the clouds, or better said, letting go of identification with those clouds. We are letting go of negative thoughts telling us lies about ourselves, others and the world.
This analogy is actually quite illustrative. The clouds sometimes look so real, as if made of cotton wool or cream. They look as if we could touch them and feel their textures. But when we try to do so, our hands move right through them.
In the same way, our negative thoughts and beliefs can look and feel very real. It can feel like all the negative stories are very real. But once we don’t let them fool us anymore, once we stop fuelling them through our consent, our energy, our belief, we’ll see how illusory and insubstantial they truly are. Once we withdraw our consent from them, once we stop being mesmerised and harassed by them, we see that they don’t have a life of their own, that without our attention they simply dissipate. Like clouds on a sunny day.
And so, dearest One, are you ready to let go of the clouds in your vast blue sky? Are you ready to allow yourself to be who you already are?
I look forward to meditating with you.
Lots of love,
Jana
